2021 IU ASIAN AEMRICAN STUDIES UNDERGRADUATE ESSAY CONTEST
DEADLINE: Friday, April 2, 2021, 11:59 PM Eastern.
The Asian American Studies Program invites submissions for the most outstanding undergraduate academic essays and research papers addressing Asian American/Pacific Islander/diasporic subjects and issues. Papers may be written from any disciplinary approach, including (but not limited to): literary and cultural criticism, history, sociology, religion, geography, psychology, political science, anthropology, education, music, folklore, visual & performing arts, cinema, and journalism.
Submissions may be of any length, including citations. Submissions should be formatted as follows: double-spaced with standard margins and standard font and citation style appropriate to the paper's disciplinary approach (i.e. MLA, APA, or Chicago). Papers should include a cover letter with the following information: applicant's name, email address, phone number, undergraduate level, major and minor, and paper title.
Entries will be judged on the originality of ideas, persuasiveness, clarity, and elegance of language.
Application Eligibility and Deadline:
Competition is open to College of Arts and Sciences Indiana University Bloomington undergraduate students. Submit your entries as a word or pdf file to aast@iu.edu by Friday, April 2, 2021, 11:59 PM Eastern. Please include your name, year, and major/minor. Applications submitted past deadline will not be considered.
Amount of award: $250 (multiple awards may be given). Funds will be deposited directly into students' bursar accounts.
2021 IU ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES PHYSICAL DISTANCING CREATIVITY SHOWCASE
DEADLINE: Friday, April 2, 2021, 11:59 PM Eastern.
To mark the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Asian American Studies Program invites undergraduate and graduate student submissions for our 2nd Physical Distancing Creativity Showcase.
Send us your smart, interesting, weird creations that address the theme "Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, + COVID-19." The format is up to you. Here are some suggested guidelines:
*Text (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc.): up to 3000 words
*Still Visual (photography, graphic design, etc.): one image + accompanying text of up to 1000 words
*Sound or Video: up to five minutes length + accompanying text of up to 1000 words
Application Eligibility and Deadline: Competition is open to College of Arts and Sciences Indiana University Bloomington undergraduate and graduate students. The Asian American Studies Program invites submissions from IUB graduate students on the masters or Ph.D. track for research and creative activity grants to support projects relevant to Asian American and/or Asian Diaspora Studies. Thanks to the generosity of alumni donors, we are now able to open the competition to applicants outside the College of Arts and Sciences.
